Junior Strategist

Job description

We are looking for a Junior Strategist to join our creative communications Agency based in Cardiff.

Job outline:​

The Junior Strategist is at the start of their strategic journey. Their role is to support the strategy team with their overall projects and support the agency more broadly with any strategic tasks. Their biggest focus will initially be on research – analysing and interpreting data to support senior colleagues and delivering research projects to clients. The Junior Strategist is beginning to learn how to turn information into insight i.e. starting to pinpoint what data says about human psychology and behaviours. They're also on a journey of understanding on how to turn insight into clear strategy that gets results. A more experienced Junior Strategist will take ownership of smaller, discreet projects and act as the go-to strategist on this. ​

Responsibilities and Duties:​

Research and Evaluation ​

- Turning raw data into more digestible and presentable information
- ​Finding the answers to colleagues’ questions in the data
- ​Summarising key research findings identified by senior colleagues
- ​Getting more confident in finding appropriate information when doing desk research
- Finding interesting ways of presenting data
- ​Observing qual research and identifying the key points of interest
- Being a source of information on the relevant subject matter and being able to input their knowledge at team and client meetings
- Contributing and eventually owning various elements of reporting, including end of campaign reports and ongoing survey trackers​
- Utilise the capabilities of AI e.g. MS Copilot for research, evaluation, and report writing/presentations​

Strategic Thinking ​

- Identifying the right objectives for communications (become familiar with best practice strategic frameworks e.g. GCS OASIS, EAST, COM-B and the GCS evaluation approach)
- ​Identifying the right channels for the job, often working in partnership with the agency’s media planners’ and comms planners in the earned team
- Starting to find compelling insights that are relevant to the objectives
​Begin to write compelling 'GET/WHO/TO/BYs' (or equivalent)
- Writing clear and simple briefs to creatives, with input from senior team members
- Writing clear and simple presentations for senior colleagues​
- Sharing strategies written by other team members with wider team and presenting them faithfully​

Creativity ​

- Sharing inspiration with creatives
- Adding creative ideas and creative contexts to briefs
- ​Developing trends decks to keep the wider team informed
- ​Knowing what ‘best in class’ looks like​
- Sharing current high-profile, innovative and award-winning creative campaigns with the agency​

Relationships ​

- Getting to know the account handling team and being ready to help at all times
- ​Developing a good relationship with the creative and media teams so as to build trust
- ​Getting to know clients by understanding their business and being helpful and affable in meetings
- ​Building relationships with research partners and getting to know their businesses​
- Be a point of contact for junior researchers within client organisations​

Business and Commercials​

- Demonstrate understanding of how we make money through fees and services, the margins we make and impact of delay/error on margin and income.  
- ​Be aware of the business’s purpose, values and behaviours and reflect these as well as contributing to and participating in our community. 
- ​Be aware of the business’s commercial goals and how you contribute to them.  
- ​Complete timesheets accurately and daily. ​
- Master a basic understanding of financial systems and procedures.​

Personal Development​

- Take ownership of your professional and personal development and gain relevant accreditations associated with your role.
- ​Conduct a PDM every 3 months to track your performance and progression within your role. ​
- Have a positive attitude towards your career development and ownership over your development goals.​

Company Responsibilities​

- Work collaboratively with all colleagues in Cardiff and other GS offices.  
​- Represent GS at corporate/industry events as required and appropriate.  
- ​Adhere to all company policies and procedures with full compliance.
- ​Demonstrate willingness to take part in corporate projects of various kinds – e.g., client service improvement, Academy development, charitable fundraising initiatives, etc.  
- ​Participate in team events and contribute to agency life. 
​- Demonstrate willingness to respond to management requests.  ​
- Notify manager of any problems with personal workload, morale, time management to receive necessary support. ​

Experience needed for this role:​

- Ideally a degree (or equivalent level) qualification
- ​Ideally 1-2 years previous experience in research or marketing ​
- Ideally some office experience
